Londoners are getting used to smaller and smaller living spaces, as the housing crisis takes its hold on the capital and other parts of the South East.
But it appears the housing shortage is worsening; this cupboard under the stairs has been advertised for £115 per week, or £500 a month, with bills charged extra.
For tenants wishing to live like Harry Potter, the cupboard has just a mattress crammed into it.
Alex Lomax went to view the home when she was searching for somewhere to live in London.
The 23-year-old graduate subsequently posted photographs of the cupboard on Twitter, saying: “I have literally just been shown a bed under the stairs for £500 a month. F you London!”
She then linked to the advertisement on london2let.com, which does not include a picture, but states: “One single furnished room available. We are looking for a friendly, open-minded and outgoing person to join our house share in a great period house in Clapham.
“We’re a good bunch and like to chill out a lot together – not really looking for somebody that just wants to stay in their room. Room comes with a bed. Bills to be shared – approx. £60 per month each.”
We’re not sure why anybody would want to just stay in their room in this house, but for some, these cramped spaces are the only options the capital has to offer.
