Waltham Forest Council Considers Landlord Licensing

Waltham Forest Council has revealed that it is considering a blanket licensing scheme for landlords in the East London borough.

The scheme is due to be enforced on 1st April 2015 and run until 31st March 2020.

All private landlords must register and those that do not comply could face fines of up to £20,000 for not having a license and up to £5,000 for other infringements.

The Residential Landlords Association (RLA) has responded, saying it does not believe licensing is an appropriate method of improving standards in the private rental sector and tackling rogue landlords.
